What’s the best way to teach a five year old to tie his shoes?

This is one of those silly things but I am trying to find a new approach on teaching him how to tie his shoes. I tried the old bunny ears thing but he gets frustrated so I want to try something new. Any ideas?

Make sure you teach him with his shoes on to help eliminate confusion. It takes a lot of patience and practice! First you need to wait until he has developed enough dexterity and when he is interested. Make sure that he knows the difference between his right and left foot. You can put a sticker or tie a piece of yarn on one foot to help your son to learn the difference.

Choose one method and stick to it to eliminate confusion (make two loops and tie them into a knot). If you are using several steps, break them down one at a time. Once he has mastered the first step, introduce the next. Make sure that others who are trying to teach this lesson are using the same method as well. Be consistent! Make up a game or poem that you play or recite each time you give the lesson. If you are dominant with one hand and your child is dominant with the opposite hand, face your child when giving the lesson. Practice, practice, practice! Good luck!
